The fourth edition of PelotasMUN is going to take place at Centro de Integração do Mercosul (CIM) and Lyceu Rio-grandense. The buildings are part of the historical centre of Pelotas and are located at the heart of the downtown area. Restaurants, supermarkets, shops and hotels are easily found nearby.
Centro de Integração do Mercosul (CIM) is an academic unit of the Federal University of Pelotas that has the aim to promote and develop the integration and exchange among the members of MERCOSUR. The centre was founded in November 29th, 1995, but long before, in 1917, it was built to be a prosperous commercial bank, and so it held the region's wealth. Its architecture was thought to reflect the character of the institution and therefore it was sculpted with figures from Greek-Roman Mythology that represent ethics, justice, cultural and political development. During the 80s it was used as the office of the Deputy Mayor of Pelotas and later transformed into Centro de Integração do Mercosul. CIM hosts a variety of events due to its structure. The building has two auditoriums: Símon Bolívar Auditorium, on the ground floor, with capacity for 90 people, and another at the top floor with capacity for 36 people. It also has a spacious hall used for exhibitions, publications and presentations, equipped with internet access.
Lyceu Rio-grandense is located in front of Centro de Integração do Mercosul. The building was first occupied by the Agronomy and Veterinary Faculty in 1889. It has recently been refurbished and nowadays it is the academic centre of the International Relations major and also the headquarters of the Federal FM Radio of Federal University of Pelotas. The place has four classrooms and a library. It is ready to host PelotasMUN!
