A position paper is commonly used to describe a position (of your assigned country, intergovernmental organization or non-governmental organization) for a certain issue in a clear and concise way.
 

The position paper can be used as one of the steps in the delegation’s preparation, as they will have to compile the country’s policies and what it has done on the issue in question, including UN treaties and conventions.
 

To improve your position paper, it should have some important items as evidences to support your position, references to past UN resolutions and international treaties – as well as statistics and other specific data involving UN – and also specific actions your country or UN have already done on the topic. You shall not forget to answer the “Questions to ponder” that you will find on your study guide, formulating ideas and possible solutions.
 

Finally, it is important to remember that the position paper is an official document, which must be written in third person and contains precisely your country’s public stance, not its personal interests or what is happening “behind the scenes” in the international scenario. Always try to be concise on your position paper, which is usually 2 pages long (one for each topic). Also remember to use your country’s official seal in the presentation of your position paper, instead of using the country’s flag.
 

You are expected to hand in your position paper the maximum two days before the Pelotas MUN simulation (07/10 wednesday). We highly recommend you to not exceed the deadline, as this will show your level of commitment with the matter in question and your fellow delegates.
