Dear students,
 

In the past 20 years (or maybe your lifetime), the world reality has become much more complex than one could ever think it would have. Many old phenomena that seemed to have been extinguished showed up again along with many new challenges which were brought by globalisation, democratisation and the end of the Cold War. If 20 years before, the world was experiencing contradictory forces that lead on one hand to regional integrations and to new types of war on the other hand, today’s reality, on its turn, faces us with new challenges such as financial crisis, terrorism and ethnic and religious intolerance.

These challenges are too powerful. They are capable of aggravating many unpleasant and unwelcome consequences which harm welfare and violate human rights all over the world. In order to face them efficiently and successfully, many countries gathered in new international organisations and informal blocks and tried to reform the existing ones. Nowadays, it is imperative to change and improve such situation. This world neuralgia cannot be accepted anymore and we must defy it.
 

I am sure that you, youngster, have already thought of or proposed solutions that would, if in practice, be able to shape the reality but got really concerned about whether someone would listen to you. For this reason, it is my honour and privilege to invite you to participate in the Pelotas Model United Nations, a forum where you will have the opportunity to act as the policy-makers who are responsible for mitigating the unpleasant situation in which millions of people live in today. Though it is not an easy task and we do know that, we all share the same commitment: making this world better not only for the future generations, but for ours too.
